A trusted family service turning cherished pictures, albums, slides and negatives into beautiful digital memories you can share with the people you love.
Most families have mixed collections gathered over decades. We guide you through the process step by step and handle every photo, album page, slide and negative with care so nothing gets lost or overlooked.
Our service was created after seeing the joy that digitising our own family archive brought at a difficult time. That experience inspired a family-run business focused on helping others preserve and share their cherished memories.
Families trust us to provide a personalised, thoughtful approach — from understanding what you need, to digitising photos, slides and negatives with care, to offering honest guidance throughout the process.
Many customers arrive with boxes, albums and envelopes that feel overwhelming. We help you make sense of it all and return everything as clear, organised digital folders.
From loose photos to full albums, slides and negatives, we provide a complete digitising service so your memories are easier to enjoy, share and keep safe.
A quick look at the care and technology behind our scanning process, from first scan through to the files you receive.
We use dedicated flatbed and film scanners, capturing your photos, albums, negatives and slides at high resolution. Each item is checked manually to ensure clarity, true-to-life colour and the best detail your originals can provide.
Older or fragile materials are handled gently, and album pages are digitised without removing photographs from their mounts, helping to protect the originals.
Light dust removal, cropping and tonal balancing are carried out where needed. Negatives and slides are converted into clear digital photos with a good range of light and detail.
Enhanced AI restoration is available for customers who would like brighter colours, improved clarity or subtle repair of age-related marks. All digital files are returned neatly labelled and easy to navigate.
Every collection is different, but these examples give a realistic guide to typical costs. Once we understand what you have, we can confirm an estimate before any work begins.
*What can affect the final price?
Prices are usually lowest when photos are loose and pre-sorted, ready for scanning.
Costs may be higher where many items are in sleeves or tightly packed albums that
require additional handling time. Costs rarely exceed the indicative guides above
by a significant margin, and you’ll always receive a clear estimate in advance.
For most work, prints are scanned at a resolution of around 600 dpi.
That is more than enough for high-quality viewing on screens and for making
fresh prints the same size as the originals (and often a little larger)
without things looking soft or blocky.
Slides and negatives are much smaller than printed photos, so we scan them
at a higher resolution (for example around 2,400 dpi). The extra
detail here means that when you “blow up” a tiny frame to screen size or
print size, you still see a sharp, detailed image rather than something
that looks stretched or blurred.
While every collection is unique, many of our projects fall into a few familiar situations.
Here are a few examples of the kind of feedback we receive from families who have trusted us with their photos and film.
“Excellent service from John for a superb price. He scanned a selection of old photographs and even enhanced their quality. I am particularly impressed with the result he got from a very small and old photograph of my grandparents wedding. Would highly recommend!”
“John and his team did a great job scanning an archive of family photos for us. The quality of the digital scans is really excellent, the hard copies were returned to us in their original condition and the service was quick, friendly and efficient. Highly recommended local business!”
“For years I had been saying that I should digitise our family photographs but never got around to it so I was delighted to find John and his team at Phoenix Photo Scanning. I am absolutely delighted with the result. Not only were the final scans of our photos great quality but the care and attention to detail along the way was superb. John took so much care with my albums and the precious memories that they hold within their pages. I am so happy that I now have our visual memories preserved digitally. ”
